Theme Week 36 = E
P Carrillo
The 98-rated PLEDGE is a fantastic cigar. There are a good variety
of Carrillo products available, but the PLEDGE stands out, IMHO.
History
NOTE: In prior theme weeks, I have given much of Carrillo's
history.
The history of Carrillo cigars is rooted in the Perez-Carrillo
family's Cuban origins and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's work on the La
Gloria Cubana brand and the E.P. Carrillo brand. Ernesto Sr.
Perez-Carrillo was born in Cuba in 1904
and learned about cigars
from his father, who sold them in the streets of Havana. Ernesto
Sr. bought El Credito, a cigar factory in Havana in 1948, and the
family became well-respected in Cuba. See other posts regarding
the loss of everything in Cuba to the murderous thieves who took
over Cuba. Ernesto Jr. Perez-Carrillo made La Gloria Cubanas in a
small factory in Miami's Little Havana district in the 1990s. The
brand became popular during the cigar craze of the time. After
selling El Credito to Swedish Match in 1999, Ernesto Jr. formed
EPC Cigar Co. with his children, Lissette and Ernesto III, in
2009. The company's factory, La Tabacalera Alianza, is located in
the Dominican Republic. Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's cigars have won
numerous awards, including:
1. La Historia E-III: Ranked number two Cigar of the Year by Cigar
Aficionado in 2014
2. Encore Majestic: Ranked number one Cigar of the Year by Cigar
Aficionado in 2018
3. Pledge: Ranked number one Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado
in 2020
