Theme Week 31 =
Nat Sherman
It seems these cigars are not considered "premium" by cigar
smokers, however they have been around for a long time and are
well known by people who look for economically-priced (read:
"cheaper") cigars. I have just a few of these products, more for
the novelty of having a wider range of labels in my humidor. These
are smooth and easy smokes, and not bad at all, IMHO. Other than
this 'theme' week, I tend to smoke one perhaps every four or five
years.
History
The history of Nat Sherman cigars can be traced back to the 1930s,
when Nat Sherman started his business in New York City. Nat
Sherman, and his partner Charles Baer, open their first store at
1400 Broadway in Manhattan's garment district. Sherman was already
involved in the premium cigar business as the half owner of Traub
Brothers and Bear, makers of the Epoca cigar brand. In the 1940s,
Nat Sherman ran Civil Defense Warden drills in his store during
World War II. By the 1990s, Nat Sherman created brands like
Metropolitan and Host, but they didn't sell well. In 2005, Nat
Sherman handed over manufacturing and distribution of its brands
to a third party. In 2011, Nat Sherman reintroduced the Nat
Sherman Timeless brand, which became a top seller and made Cigar
Aficionado's Top 25 list in 2012. In 2017, Altria Group Inc.
acquired Nat Sherman. Then in 2020, The Nat Sherman Townhouse
flagship store on 42nd Street in New York City closed. Today, the
Nat Sherman blends live on under the new name, Ferio Tego, created
by a company of former Nat Sherman executives.
