Theme Week 30 =
Don Lino
I have only a few of the Don Lino line of cigars, and the larger
sticks are about 15 years old with a label that predates the
labeling change that coincided with a focus on lower-priced
cigars.
So these ornate labels are for a Connecticut wrapper cigar
that was produced at the end of the line's finer cigars, before
their intentional choice to "step down" the quality of their
product line.
I also have a few boxes of their super-mild small cigarillos which
are good for a quick infusion of nicotine when one does not have
time for a full cigar.
History
In 1989, Nestor Miranda and his wife Mariana established Miami
Cigar & Company, their cigar distributorship and in 1995, Nestor
retired from spirits to focus on his cigar business. In 1996, UST
pulled out of their contract with Nestor, leading to a lawsuit.
During the cigar boom of the 1990s, Don Lino cigars were popular
and affordable. Later, in 2021, Miami Cigar & Company introduced
new Don Lino offerings at the Premium Cigar Association Trade
Show, including the Don Lino Dominican Connecticut and Maduro.
Other Don Lino cigars include:
- Don Lino Africa - Inspired by the African continent, this cigar
blend is made by hand in Nicaragua
- Don Lino Casa Verde - This cigar has an olive-green wrapper and
a mild, all-Dominican tobacco blend
For some time during the cigar boom, the Don Lino brand was
actually very good and popular, but over the decades of the 21st
century, the brand has focused on lower, more economically priced
cigars.
