Theme Week 22 =
Alec Bradley
I have only a few of the Alec Bradley products. Most recent is the
Prensado. But much older, in fact, up to 15 years old, are the
Tempus Genesis and the no longer available Plantation Blend. These
are three of the best labels I have had of the Alec Bradley
roster.
History
The history of Alec Bradley cigars is one of passion,
determination, and resilience, and includes many notable events
and achievements. Alan Rubin, a cigar enthusiast, founded the
company in 1996 at the end of the cigar boom.
He named the company
after his sons, Alec and Bradley. Rubin's first cigars were
unprofitable, and the company struggled during the early 2000s.
But in 2007, the company introduced the full-flavored "Tempus"
line (including the 'Genesis' of which I have a large number in my
humidor), which helped the company break into a broader market.
Rubin and Ralph Montero joined forces to steer the company in a
new direction, focusing on specialized tobacco retail stores.
In
2009, the company launched the Prensado, a cigar made with an
ultra-dark wrapper grown in Honduras.
In 2011, Cigar Aficionado
named the Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill Cigar of the Year. Alec
Bradley cigars are made by a number of manufacturers, including
Raices Cubanas of Honduras, Nestor Plasencia in Honduras and
Nicaragua, Henke Kelner (of Davidoff fame) in the Dominican
Republic, and J. Fuego Cigar Co. de Nicaragua in Estelí,
Nicaragua.
