Theme Week 3 = Avo
(a Davidoff line)
Continuing my "theme" weeks, after a Zino week followed by a week
of Drew Estate (https://gab.com/jdburney1/posts/112541740210762130
), this week is AVO with Nicaragua and Nicaragua Fogata Toros,
Classic Robustos, and South American Ritmo Toros.
History
The history of Avo cigars is tied to the story of Avo Uvezian, a
jazz musician and cigar lover, and his collaboration with Hendrik
Kelner to create a premium cigar brand. The inspiration came while
Uvezian was dining out and was upset by the price of a Cuban
cigar, and decided to make his own.
Uvezian met Kelner, a cigar
craftsman, and the two worked together to create a special cigar
for Uvezian. Uvezian signed an agreement with Davidoff to
distribute the cigars. The brand is named after Uvezian, who was
the face of the brand until his death in 2017. Avo cigars are
handmade at the Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. Avo
cigars became a huge success story, growing from about 5,000
cigars in 1987 to over 750,000 in the third year. Uvezian's legacy
lives on in the Avo brand, which produces a portfolio of
high-quality premium cigars. The Avo Classic cigar is the
foundation of the brand and is made from a blend of Dominican
long-fillers, Dominican binders, and an Ecuadorian wrapper. The
cigars have a creamy, mild to medium-bodied finish.
